Learn How To Play Poker And Win

There is no sure way to win at poker, but by knowing what you are doing, you can certainly increase your odds of winning. Unlike table games such as roulette and craps, there are strategies to poker. Even Blackjack is stacked against the house. With poker, you have a better chance.

Doc Holliday, infamous gunslinger and Western hero, often said that poker was an honest living. He dismissed other gambling games at the time, like Faro, as being for suckers. This was because poker is a game of skill. And it is also a game where you play against other players, not the house.

In an online casino, you are usually playing poker against other people. This means that someone has to win. Yes, the house will get a cut of the earnings, but some players will win money while others will lose. There are a few unwritten rules when playing poker online. Here they are:

If you come up with less than a pair of Jacks on a stud game, drop. People often stay in out of some misplaced sense of obligation, or because they think they are going to get lucky. Some poker players also have a problem with dropping. Play conservatively and do not be afraid to drop.

If you come up with less than a pair during Texas Holdem, drop. Unless the flop is two Aces and you are holding an Ace, of course.

Check out what the other players are doing. How many are going out? How many are raising and calling? Yes, some people bluff but do they really have a good hand? People say that online poker has a disadvantage because you cannot read someone else and see their expressions. However, many of them wear sunglasses during play anyway so that you cannot read their eyes. Forget eye expressions and go for actions. Concentrate on your hand but be mindful of what others are doing.

If you have a good hand (like four of a kind or better) never let anyone bully you out of a game. Do not get intimidated when someone is betting heavily or bragging about their hand. While some people will hold on to the death with bad hands, others will drop with good hands because they feel intimidated. And half the time, the intimidator is bluffing.

Realize that if you are going to play poker, you will lose 25 percent of the time. If you can, buy in to tournaments so that you have a set limit as to what you can lose instead of constantly throwing money at the table games.

There are a good many people across the world who make their living playing poker. What one man can do, so can another. Remember that this is not all luck and play conservatively to win.

Heads-up with E-Dog

I choose the poker tournaments that I play with great care. I don't miss many WSOP events which means I'm booked in Vegas from the end of May until the middle of July each year. I also like to play the major WPT tournaments, so that's another twenty days per year that I'm away from home.

10 Best Moments of Seattle's Bumbershoot Fest

This weekend's Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival is defined as much by what it isn't as what it is. It's not an indie rock fest, it's not a destination fest. Set in the heart of Seattle, it's easily accessed by foot or bus, making it a magnet for families and assorted city freaks, and its lineup is far more eclectic than most festivals its size. Now in its 40th year, Bumbershoot attempts to be ...
